You Might Be Getting Old
There are hints you might qualify for “old”
“Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight. I wish I may, I wish I might have this wish I wish tonight.”
Let’s see — oh, yeah — I hope the dentist can fix this tooth without any expensive measures.
When that is the first wish that comes to mind, you might consider thinking of yourself as, well, let’s say not young anymore. No wishes about getting a raise or promotion. No wishes about how the kids won’t need braces. No wishes about finding true love.
No, you’re worried about saving an aching tooth without its costing an arm and a leg.
It’s pathetic.
Or maybe not. You live on a nice pension and Social Security and Medicare, at least for a couple more years. No more worries about fighting someone else for that promotion. No worries about getting fired or laid off and having to find another job.
The kids are grown and gone and have kids (and one soon to have a grandchild) of their own. You can enjoy them, but they’re not your responsibility anymore. You can offer advice or comfort or sympathy, but their decisions are their own.
