The Abortion Issue Is Not about Babies

It’s about women’s rights

If “pro-lifers” were actually interested in life, they would make sure all children were born into homes that could feed and care for them.

The GOP claims to be “pro-life.” It is not. It is “pro-birth,” but what happens to the result of that pregnancy doesn’t matter. They vote to cut benefits to children — food, housing — all those “welfare” programs that they say our country can’t afford.

But we can afford to supplement big corporations, big pharma, big oil. For every $1 paid out in social welfare, $2 are paid out to corporate welfare. It is amazing how the GOP can find the money for what they want and what their big donors want, but money to help people in need? No can do.

So if it’s not the children they are really worried about, why attack abortion rights? Easy. It’s an attack on women.

“You got yourself in this by having sex. Now you pay the price. You wear that scarlet letter of pregnancy.” That can only be said to women, right? Men can have all the sex they want; “boys will be boys.” They can walk away.

If a woman is pregnant, it means she had sex. It doesn’t matter if she was willing. It doesn’t matter if she is 10 years old and was raped or abused by a family member. It doesn’t matter if the birth…
