Sundays Are Good Days for Reading (and Naps)

After 11 AM, I’m bored stiff

I never schedule anything in the morning; I’m not a morning person, and it’s usually noon by the time I hit the shower. I may have been up for two or three hours by then, but I’m on the computer reading Medium stories, deleting hundreds (well, it seems like hundreds) of e-mails, and checking Facebook for interesting messages from friends.

But Sunday mornings, I get up early. I have an appointment. I go to church. I haven’t been a church goer (except for weddings and funerals) for 50 years, but I have a really good reason to go now. My older cousin’s son is the minister of the church I go to, and I like his sermons and prayers. I also get to see my two cousins in a chat room after the service, the only time I get to see them.

You see, the church is 13 hours away, as are my cousins. God bless ZOOM.

The service starts at 9:15, so I get up at 8:30, pour a glass of water over my hair (I get terrible bed head) and throw on my bathrobe. I pour myself a glass of fruit juice, take my morning pills, and get my tea ready for later. Then I go to the computer.

Imagine being able to go to church in your bathrobe! No make-up, no picking out an outfit — just tumble out of bed and (excuse the pun) — ZOOM — you’re in church. There is also a live audience…
