Sometimes Life Is Damned Unfair

An accident just ruined my husband’s dream

I just wrote a few days ago about teeth and how unfair it is that we don’t get new ones like sharks do, that a set of teeth we get when we’re kids is supposed to last ’til death do us part.

My husband, Dave, has been missing two bottom front teeth for years now, since before I met him. He was embarrassed about it, because he felt he couldn’t really smile. Getting those teeth replaced somehow has been a priority for us since we met two and a half years ago. Money was the problem.

We now have insurance that gives us $1,200 a year (each) for dental work. He had a couple of teeth that really needed pulling, so he had that done first, and his next appointment at the end of this month was to get veneers for those two teeth. He was so excited about being able to smile again.

Tonight, as we were folding laundry in the bedroom, his foot got tangled in the excess top sheet hanging on the floor. He tripped, fell flat on his face, and knocked out a top front tooth. It embedded itself in his arm as he fell, and it just pulled out.

His first thought was of having our family see him this Saturday for Easter. Now he has a gap on the bottom and another one on top. My heart is broken for him. He was going to get his smile back. While…
