I’m not feeling hopeful for my country

When Barack Obama was declared president, I was so proud of my country, I could have burst. (What a mess that would have been!) When he was reelected, I was amazed. If the other party had not been determined to block every move he wanted to make, his presidency could have been truly remarkable, in my opinion.

When the next president was elected, I woke up the morning after wishing it had all been a bad dream and the election was still in the future. I could not believe the same country that had elected an intelligent, educated, warm, and caring man four years before could choose the opposite in the next election.

Everyone in New York State knew what a sleaze DJT was. He’d lied, cheated, and stolen from everyone he’d ever worked with. He was famous for hiring subcontractors and not paying them. He put companies out of business as they tried to get what he owed them. He used other people like Kleenex (toilet paper would be an even better analogy.) I never thought I could ever say it, but George Bush II was a better president.

After four years of 45, we got him out. Voters turned out in record numbers (which isn’t saying much, as I don’t think anywhere close to 50% of the population actually votes.) People danced in the streets when he was ousted. I…
