My mother had a nervous breakdown in her senior year of college; she continued to have them at stressful periods in her life, like the births of her children. She was hospitalized many times, and through the years, as mental health care got better, the stays in the hospital went from a year to a couple of weeks, when they adjusted her medication. I, too, now suffer from low seratonin levels in my brain and take an antidepressant daily. Our brains are organs, just like all our other organs, and things can go wrong. There should be no stigma attached to needing help.
