More Things I Don’t Understand

I’ll keep this to a manageable length, but it could be longer

I’ve included mosquitoes in every one of my lists of things I don’t understand, so I won’t include them here, even though I still don’t understand why the females have to bite animals and spread diseases in order to produce their eggs. Birds don’t, thank goodness.

And I think I’ve mentioned sharks’ teeth before too, how it’s unfair that they get new ones all the time, and I had to pay $485 after insurance to get a partial. I realize sharks don’t have the money and I do, but it still doesn’t seem fair.

The latest mystery in my life has to do with sunburn. I have fair skin (that used to go with my blond hair, another thing I don’t understand — I’ll explain later) and every year of my life, I have burned the first time I go out for the season. Sometimes it was unavoidable; I was forced to attend YMCA camp every year (Dad worked there, so we got a free family membership), and I’d burn the first week. Sometimes it was because I was in a hurry; I didn’t want to tan gradually, so I’d overdo it the first time.

All I needed to do was sit out in the sun for a few hours, especially during cousins’ weekend, and I’d get a burn. The worst one I ever got was after a couple of hours by the pool in California, but the vast…
