It Doesn’t Matter What We Do
Age will find a way
Turkey neck — so attractive, especially when covered in a new beard that appeared from nowhere. I can pluck or shave the beard, but no creams or lotions, no matter what they claim, will fix turkey neck. I can try to cover it up with high-necked sweaters or scarves, but I hate things around my neck, and they get make-up on them (on the few days I wear make-up.)
Thin skin. In her later years, I noticed my mother’s skin was like parchment. I thought it must be the medications she was on, but my cousins and I have noticed it creeping up on us. I asked a nurse once if there was anything I could do to repair it. The answer was “no.” The dogs just have to touch my arm with a claw, and I get a lovely bruise. Six dogs, twelve paws, and I look like I’ve been through a violent episode.
Weight gain. Now, I have not had this problem. I did years ago. I don’t recommend my cure. I got really sick for a year and lost my appetite. I lived on Boost and Instant Breakfast and crackers. I lost 40 pounds. I have kept them off because I never really got my appetite back. My portions are much smaller, and there are nights when a bowl of cereal sounds fine for supper.
I weigh ten pounds more right now than I did when I graduated from high school 54 years ago. That sounds impressive, but, believe me, I do not…
