I taught high school for 4 years. It was awful. You're right; the onus was on the teachers, not the students or their parents, to take responsibility for the student's success. That's why I loved teaching college. I enjoyed being the their introduction to taking responsibility for themselves. Better me than a judge in a courtroom. It's time to start making students take responsibility for their actions, not push that responsibility onto the teachers.
