I Need More

I love my house. It’s just the size I need: big eat-in kitchen, big living room with high ceilings. A fireplace. Comfortable furniture that’s almost animal proof. A good-sized master bedroom with a high ceilings and French doors that open onto a deck with a gazebo. A master bath with a separate bath tub and shower. Two other bedrooms, one for a guest room and the other for a den. Lots of closets. An attached garage, now with a garage door opener, compliments of my children, who gave it to me for Christmas. The washer and dryer are out there, too, instead of down a winding staircase with a concrete floor at the bottom to kill myself on if I fell down.

I love the floors in my house. When I first moved in, they were covered in old, dirty carpet that my dogs immediately (I mean the minute we walked in the door) made dirtier. Now, there are tile floors in every room, easy to clean and in soothing colors that go well with the neutral walls.

I love the pictures on my walls. Each one means something to me; a few I even painted myself. Yes, they were paint-by-the-number, but I painted them, pretty much staying in the lines. I have a beautiful photograph of the Finger Lakes from the air, so you can see all of them with the sun setting on them.

I love my back yard with its woods hiding the houses in the next development over. I love the maples I brought with me when I moved, who survived three months of no water and little light while they were trapped in storage. They looked pretty sick when they were finally bailed out, but they came back to life…
