I Have Too Much but not Enough Money

I remember back in grad school reading novels by John Barth and Saul Bellow about men in middle age crisis. Their wives were old, their children were pains, their careers were boring, they were realizing they would never conquer the earth, and they threw everything away to start over. They had plenty of money to do it and more than enough self-pity. I wanted to slap them. They had everything I wanted, and they threw it all away (except the money) because they weren’t happy or fulfilled or some pathetic, whiny, selfish reason.
