How to Tell When It’s the Universe That’s Against You

There’s luck, bad luck, worse luck, and past that, ain’t nothing going to work for you. Dave and I have reached that last point, and I can tell you, if it weren’t for our love for each other and our senses of humor, life would be pretty bleak.

Although this starts a while ago, let’s just begin with yesterday. I paid the bills yesterday, but I ran out of money before I ran out of bills.

We’ve been waiting for our income tax refund since we filed it on line in February. In May, Dave went back on line to see what was holding it up and found a note that said it needed correcting. We were supposed to be notified about that as soon as it happened, but we were not. He refiled, correcting what they said needed to be corrected. Yesterday, after I ran out of money, he went back once more and found that our form had not been processed. I pushed some buttons and actually found a number for a PERSON we could talk to. After an hour on hold (and the music is awful,) we were told that our claim was rejected because it didn’t include my adjusted gross income for 2019. (Now, this is the return for 2020.)
