Conservatives: don’t bother to read this

Puppies, like all baby animals, are adorable, but there can be too many. Shelters are full of unwanted dogs and cats.

We only have puppies because the dog we rescued was pregnant. We had no idea; her spay was scheduled for two days after she gave birth. She will be spayed this week, as the puppies are weaned. All my other dogs (and all cats I have had) got neutered as soon as they were old enough. Puppies and kittens are adorable, but there can be too many.

The GOP had been trying to get rid of Roe v Wade since it was decided by the Supreme Court in the 1970’s. They claim it’s to save lives; one GOP candidate recently argued that gun deaths are not the leading cause of death of children — abortion is.

I’m pretty sure if Sadie, the mother of the puppies, had had a choice on having another litter (she’s about two years old and had obviously had at least one litter before this one) she might have chosen not to give birth again. But she didn’t have a choice.

Aside from ending pregnancies due to rape, incest, and medical emergencies, over which there should be no argument, until the responsibility for pregnancy really is shared by both genders, I think women should be able to choose whether to continue the pregnancy. I think if men got pregnant instead of women, women shouldn’t have a say in the decision to continue. As long as it still takes two to start the process but only one is left with…
